Many Nigerians gloat that Covid-19 is mainly targeting the country’s elite, particularly politicians, despite warnings that the life-threatening respiratory illness could hit the poor as well.
However, religious leaders have played a huge role in enhancing peoples belief on the deadly virus.
For instances ,
A major Nigerian pentecostal preacher once vowed to continue holding Sunday service for thousands of his followers, spurning worldwide medical advisory against physical contact at a time of blazing corona virus.
Also, a video of Muslim faithfuls fleeing from a prayer gathering has surfaced online. The video shows different Muslim men running for their safety from an elderly Muslim man after they were caught flouting the lockdown order.
Some churches went as far as using USSD code for tithe and offering.
So then I ask, do these religious leaders care about the followers or their own pocket?
At a time where people are finding it hard to feed most churches still expect money from their followers.
A pastor even preached about the conspiracy theory of 5g network and corona virus as the Antichrist.
All these, I fear might lead to the death of many Nigerians due to their beliefs
Nigeria, which is a highly religious State believes in whatever is said by their pastors nor imams. These people have a great influence on their followers belief.
They are in the right position to educate them about the life taking virus but instead they choose to mislead their followers.
If proper attention is not paid to these, religion might just be the death of Nigerians.
