5G is the 5th generation mobile network. It is a new global wireless standard after 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G networks. 5G enables a new kind of network that is designed to connect virtually everyone and everything together including machines, objects, and devices.
5G wireless technology is meant to deliver higher multi-Gbps peak data speeds, ultra-low latency, more reliability, massive network capacity, increased availability, and more uniform user experience to more users. Higher performance and improved efficiency empower new user experiences and connect new industries.
There are people however who clearly see 5G network as more than a network.
As humans, for some reason, we tend to see new technological advancement as evil before good. In the 90s when 2G was first launched, it was said to be the reason for cancer.
Now that 5G is taking off, a lot of people have tied it to be the cause of the coronavirus
How People Related the 5G Network To Corona Virus:
In March, Dr Thomas Cowan, a US doctor on disciplinary probation, claimed 5G poisoned cells in the body forcing them to excrete waste which eventually became known as COVID-19.
Prior to the outbreak of COVID-19, there were already discussions about the effects 5G could have on a person’s health, due to these higher frequencies and the type of radiation it emits.
Many people did not even know about the 5G network but when it coronavirus pandemic started and Dr Thomas video dropped, all hell broke loose.
It is in man’s nature to always look for what or who to blame for a certain predicament, and 5G just happened to be in this coronavirus crossfire
Many people didn’t even take their time to know what 5G really was about. The fear made rumours spread fast.
Many 5G towers were vandalised because people believed that it is only the stopping of 5G network usage that would end the COVID-19 cases.
Since the outbreak, the 5G conversation seems to have found itself linked to the disease with people claiming it could exacerbate the spread through its frequencies, or by suppressing the immune system.
Others have claimed the virus is, in fact, being used to cover up dangerous effects of the mobile network.
Many celebrities even reposted Dr Thomas video.
In Nigeria, Public figures like Femi Fani Kayode, Dino Melaye, Pastor Chris Oyakilomen, among others went on and about of the conspiracy behind 5G network.
There were a whole lot of WhatsApp broadcast messages and audio messages that put fear in the minds of many.
However, a lot of scientists disproved the theory and Youtube had to take Thomas’s down.
Scientists have been able to recreate the virus in a lab, proving it is not simply a secretion from human cells, while there were numerous other claims in the Cowan video which did not add up.
From My Research, 5G Network is not related to any coronavirus and some countries in the world are already using it successfully. Just as we had 4G, we are also expecting 5G to come into place.
Let us all remove the mentality of 5G being harmful to the people and country at large. We need to explore more technological inventions in Nigeria.
In Conclusion, the 5G network is a higher version of all the GS. As we saw 2G,3G, and 4G, now we should be expecting 5G. It is made to make our daily lives so stress-free and unburdened
