A police inspector, Haruna Kawura, attached to the Imo State Government House was on Tuesday found dead at the Avana Shell camp in Owerri, the state capital.

It was gathered that when found, his lifeless body was covered with bruises raising the suspicion that he was assassinated.

The inspector was said to have gone out for drinks on Monday night only to be found lying dead on Tuesday morning.

When the scene was visited, people including policemen were seen managing the situation.
A colleague of the deceased said the corpse of the inspector was evacuated in an ambulance from the government house.

“The victim is Haruna Kawura. He was an inspector of police. He was demobbed from mobile police in the North and was posted to Imo State and was later posted to the Imo Government House.

“His death was strange. There were bruises on his body. He must have been strangulated as there was no gunshot on his body,” the source said.

When contacted, the police spokesperson in the state, Orlando Ikeokwu, confirmed the killing and disclosed that investigation had commenced in the matter.
