Love ebooks and audiobooks? Then you have to know about Scribd

I am sure you must have heard the saying that leaders are readers, right? Well, it’s 2021. The world is literally moving at the speed of light. Attention span is at an all time low. Yet, it is still important to acquire more knowledge so as to stay on the cutting edge of your career and broaden your horizon. Thankfully, technology has come to the rescue.

Imagine having access to over 1 million books and over 60 million documents on your mobile device and the size is just about 76mb. Blown, right?

Alright, you are not thrilled. I mean, who has time to read from a hard cover much less a mobile device with the constant distraction of WhatsApp notifications?

What if I told you that you could listen to the materials instead of read?

Oh now you are interested… Thought as much.

Scribd is American e-book and audiobook subscription service that includes one million titles. Scribd hosts 60 million documents on its open publishing platform. Simply put, Scribd is just like putting an entire library in your pocket.

Upon Sign Up, you have access to:

  • Unlimited books and audiobooks across all genres including Personal Growth, True Crime, Business, Travel, Non-Fiction, Contemporary Fiction, Science Fiction, and more.
  • Unlimited sheet music selections that cover every musical genre, instrument, and difficulty level. Play the classics or explore current hits from popular artists.
  • Unlimited articles from hundreds of magazines including People, New York Magazine, Time, The Atlantic, Entrepreneur, Men’s Health, Women’s Health, and more.
  • Unlimited access to the world’s largest document library, which includes more than 60 million documents including official government reports, case studies, study guides, academic dissertations, medical reports, and more.

It is paid service though.

Yes.. Were you expecting it to be for free? (*side eye)

The service costs a monthly fee of $9.99. This means you have access to the entire library for a period of 30 days at just $9.99! I argue that this is cheap considering that the cost of an average book on Amazon is $9.99.

I am an audio listener and I love the features. You can:

  • Customize the narration speed
  • Set a sleep timer
  • Download audiobooks to listen offline (in case you are data conscious though the app is very data friendly).

If you would rather read ebooks, it also has cool features for you. You can

  • Download books to read offline
  • Make notes and annotations, and add bookmarks
  • Customize your font size, type, and background color
  • Choose horizontal or vertical page scrolling

I have been using Scribd for about 2 years and I am a big fan. You don’t have to take my word for it though. You can test the service yourself at no cost for 2 months. As a new user, Scribd offers you the full service for free for the first 2 months after which you can decide to cancel your subscription or continue to use it at premium price.
