Going into this weekend, there’s good news and bad news. The bad news was Golfer Tiger Woods nearly losing his life when his SUV tumbled down a winding Los Angeles road on Tuesday. It shook the world of sports. He missed death by the whiskers. Thankfully, he’s in good spirits, recovering and we may be hearing Tiger roar in the golf woods soon enough.
The good news is spectators may be returning to stadiums as soon as May 2021. Covid-19 numbers are declining because vaccination programmes have kicked off around the world. Lockdowns and restrictions are gradually getting lifted.
So what’s happening in Sports this weekend?
Formular 1 2021 Season Build-up
Aston Martin makes a return F1 since 1960! The 2021 Formular 1 season will be fire and is kicking off in exactly 4 weeks time! And boy! did we have driver shake-ups and movements when things kick off in Bahrain.
The Haas racing team will take to the grid with 2 F2 graduates! Both are 21 years old too! They’re bringing in Nikita Mazepin and Mick Schumacher Jr., son of 7-time champion Michael.
Mercedes kept faith with Louis Hamilton and Valteri Bottas. Redbull Racoing kept Mad Max Vestappen and brought in Sergio Perez as #2. Last season’s #2 got relegated. Former champion Fernando Alonso came back to F1 and joined the Alpine racing team.
But the most interesting shake-up took place at Ferrari. Charles Leclerc is finally #1 with the Scuderia, while Carlos Sainz was recruited to wear the Rosso Corsa as Sebastian Vettel’s replacement.
The RacingPoint team got rebranded as Aston Martin and brought in 4-time champ Seb Vettel as #1. They partnered him with Lance Stroll.
Pre-season tests are already in full gear and we can’t wait!!!

NBA All-Star Weekend Latest
The feisty AC Milan striker, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, has started a Trans-Atlantic beef with LA Lakers star, Le Bron James. Zlatan poked at Le Bron, whom he told to stick to sports and leave the politics of life alone.
Both the Lion and the King are having a hard time with their teams (Milan haven’t won in the last 4 games, LAkers lost their last 4), and just need the distraction.
Bad news if you’re looking forward to seeing Kevin Durant in the NBA All-Star game because he’s out with a hamstring injury (to miss 6 games) and would be replaced by Indiana Pacers’ forward Domantas Sabonis.
Sabonis has earned his second straight NBA All-Star selection. He’s averaging a career-high 21.5 points, 11.7 rebounds (5th in the NBA) and 5.7 assists in 30 games this season.
Game of the Weekend – Golden State vs LA Lakers
This is King Le Bron’s chance to shut Zlatan up. 7th vs 3rd at the Staples Center. 2019 losing finalists vs 2020 Champions. The last time these two teams met (Jan. 19, 2021) it was the Warriors taking a slim 2-point win over the Lakers.
Steph Curry is in the form of his life right now, with the Lakers still missing Anthony Davis, don’t be surprised if the Warriors sneak another win. But Le Bron will want to send a message to Zlatan, he wants to win this one badly. The Lakers to steal a narrow win.

La Liga : Crunch Tie – (Sevilla vs Barcelona * Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan)
Interesting fixture this weekend see Atletico Madrid (1st) playing Villareal (6th), Real Madrid (2nd) playing Real Sociedad (5th) and Barcelona (3rd) playing Sevilla (4th).
Sevilla has earlier managed to throw the spanner in Barca’s works in the Copa Del Ray (2-0 victory at home) and they go into this tie at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan the in-form team.
Barcelona is in tatters. The win over Elche was just face-saving. They’ve beaten beaten black and blue by anyone who feels up to it. However, this game is Messi’s bread and butter.
Messi has scored more goals against Seville than any other team in La Liga (31 goals in 47 games). If Barca win and Madrid lose on Monday night, the Blaugrana goes 2nd on the table.
It’s a game of epic proportions which must produce a winner. It’s a massive game deserving of a massive outcome. Barcelona could do the business and claim all 3 points. Expect 3 goals or more – both teams have goals in them.

Eredivisie – (PSV vs Ajax * Philips Stadion)
The biggest clubs in the Eredivisie are locking horns for the 2nd time in the league this season. The first was a tasty 2-2 result. They’ve given football very fine strikers; Romario, Vanilsteeroy, Ronaldo De Lima, Luis Suarez – to mention just a few.
Both teams come into this game on fine form. However, PSV’s only stain the last 5 games was a loss to Olympiacos in the Europa League, where Ajax progressed over Lille.
These two teams have shared the championship 8 times between them in the last 10 season (5 for Ajax, 3 for PSV, Feyernood took 2017 and 2020 was abandoned due to Covid-19). They know each other far too well.
Are we going to see a draw? Maybe. But we won’t see a barren affair. They will score at least 3 goals between them.

EPL – Chelsea And United Renew Rivalry With Top 4 Place Up As Reward
Thomas Tuchel has stabilized Chelsea. The floundering team he took over can hold their own against any team right now. They can defend well, they’re solid in the middle and score when they need to. But they’ve not met an unpredictable team like Ole’s Manchester United.
Manchester United have won their last three away games against Chelsea, the FA Cup – Feb. 2019, League Cup – Oct. 2019 and EPL Feb. 2020. The last time they met in the league, they produced a very boring 0-0 outcome. This Chelsea can pass you to death, this United can be non-chalant sometimes.
United is in a position where Chelsea would want to be right now – not playing their best game but grinding out results. And United have been unbeaten in 19 away games. Chelsea will have a say if that streak stretches to 20 on Sunday afternoon.
Ole hasn’t lost to a Top 6 team this season, the most likely outcome is a draw and it’s because the United defence have an error in them and could concede. If there’s a team that can wreck havoc on the Chelsea defence, it’s that United attack. Hard to call but we can expect to see 2 goals.
