7 Feared Dead In Nigeria Airforce Aircraft In Abuja
News emanating from the nation’s capital, Abuja has it there has be a fatal air crash involving a military aircraft this Sunday.
The tragic crash involved Beechcraft KingAir plane belonging to the Nigeria Airforce. It crashed in the area just around the Abuja airport.
The reported cause of the fatal crash was engine failure. The ill-fated aircraft carrying Nigeria Airforce personnel was headed to Minna, the Niger State capital.
Eye-witness account has it the aircraft was totally engulfed in flames at the crash site. Hundreds of citizens and first responders like the Fire Service, were first to reach the site as soon as the plane went down.
The Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, was among the first government officials to react officially to the fatal air crash on his Twitter handle at 12.39pm.
Director of Public Relations and Information Headquarters – Nigerian Air Force (DOPRI), Air Vice Marshal Ibikunle Daramola, confirmed the unfortunate crash on his Twitter handle, @KunleDaramola3.
Reacting to the news of the tragic accident, he tweeted,
“This is to confirm that a Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Beechcraft KingAir B350i aircraft crashed while returning to the Abuja Airport after reporting engine failure enroute Minna. First responders are at the scene. Sadly, all 7 personnel on board died in the crash.”
It is understood the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) has ordered an immediate investigation into the incident while the public has been urged to remain calm while the official report is made public. The site of the crash has been cordoned off to the public.
The tragic air crash is the top trending topic on Twitter with 16,000 tweets on “Abuja Airport”. Eye-witness videos and tweets capturing the crash are all over social media.
